Sovereign Tea Released!

Friends, what a journey it has been. At long last, Sovereign Tea is now available to play. We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it!

You should now have your Steam keys for the game and OST, distributed through BackerKit. Please check your email for your digital rewards! And please let us know if the email didn't go through--we want you to play!

You may have noticed the above distribution is solely for Steam keys. If itch.io is your preferred platform, you should already have your keys from the beta distribution. Log into the itch.io account you used to redeem the beta keys and download the latest, 1.0 version of the game. You of course get to still keep the Steam keys. Feel free to redeem them to hunt for achievements... or to gift it to a friend!

There will be more updates from us, particularly as we continue forward progress on fulfilling physical rewards. For now, we want to thank you once more for all your support. Enjoy the game!

Sovereign Tea Launches in 5 Days!

Sovereign Tea launches in 5 days! The game will come out on July 30 at 8:00AM PDT / 11:00AM EDT. I will be awake quite early that day to ensure a smooth launch. We are proud to say that the release candidate build has been approved by Steam. We are even more proud to say we got approved first try, so that's a pretty nice sign overall!

Let's do a quick content dump of all the cool things going on with the game.

Visual UI Polish

The past weeks have been predominately focused on visual polish, particularly with UI presentation. There are a lot of little changes to every UI element that, when brought together, lead to a tighter and sleeker final vision. For example, we've shrunken the sizes of the action bar and the top bar to expand the amount of world space you can interact with.

In the beta you could only bring up to 8 units into a level. We've upped this number to 9, as later levels required us to have even more diversity of what you can utilize.

The long-awaited brew experimentation feature has finally made its way into the build! Between levels, in Fort Steep, you can mix and match various resources you collect to discover new and exciting minions. We hope you enjoy discovering the heap of units this game has!

Speaking of heap of units, our Library UI has had quite the facelift. In the bestiary view, you can gain information on every unit in the game, including enemies! Library features are totally optional, which makes us partially wonder why we put so much effort into them, but we hope you like it!

Speaking of completely optional content... maps! There are a lot of maps in the game that update as you progress through each level. All this information will be available to you in the final game. Again, completely optional, but if at least one person likes it, that's good enough for us!

Steam Presence

The Steam version of the game has 10 achievements total. Nothing too fancy or crazy, but we hope you achievement hunters enjoy unlocking them!

The White Tea Princesses are ready to face the Coffee Empire. Are you?

Everybody on the development tea is truly amazed by all the support we've gotten on this little game. It's kind of fun to think about how the game started with the simple premise of "Tea VS Coffee" and not much more beyond that. To go from those humble origins to a successful Kickstarter campaign is bewildering. We've put our hearts into this title, working as hard as we can to get it to you as quickly as we can without compromising on quality. Not only are we proud to bring you this title, we're proud to have done it as quickly as we have!

Think about it: the Kickstarter campaign started October 2020. It is July 2021, less than a year later, and the game is ready. Seeing as how the entire development team has full-time jobs, we're really not actually sure how we managed to pull this off. Perhaps that's just the power of tea.

July 2021 Update: This is the release month

Unless there's an issue with Steam review, Sovereign Tea will release this month. When exactly? Glad you asked. Friday, July 30 @ 8:00AM PDT / 11:00AM EDT / 3:00PM UTC. Given that, what's the current project status? Also glad you asked. Let's buckle in.

The OST is Complete

The OST is 100% complete. It is 20 tracks long coming in at 32 minutes 37 seconds. The OST tracks do not include looping in their mixes. This soundtrack couldn't have come to life without your support. Your contributions helped us get to where we are today. We cannot thank you enough.

Top-Level Development Progress

As is usual with our monthly updates, we'd like to focus on where each aspect of development is, comparing its progress over the past month.

  • Unit designs: 100% 
  • Gameplay: 100% 
  • Level designs: 95% -> 100% 
  • Character art: 100% 
  • World unit art: 95% -> 100% 
  • Level art: 45% -> 92% 
  • Music: 92% -> 100% 
  • Scriptwriting: 95% -> 100% 
  • UI: 75% -> 85%
  • Final Pass: 0% -> 60%

If all goes according to schedule, we are likely going to have a near-final build ready for Steam review in about one week. Once that's ready, the remaining time between then and release will be spent primarily on additional playtesting and marketing. If necessary, a Day 1 patch for Steam will be made to fix anything critical that might be caught. As for itch.io, we can release basically whenever we like, so there's not much to be worried about there.

Shipping Updates

We have been steadily preparing, packaging, and shipping out physical rewards. Currently, 75% of orders have been fulfilled. We thank you for your patience here, as everything is prepared with love by hand.

Other Updates

We filmed our Q+A session for the coming 4th vlog. We are still in the process of editing the footage and it should be available soon. Some of these questions were truly incredible and got a good chuckle out of the team, like the Souls one shown above.

It's been a long and at times exhausting process getting to this point, but we're here now. The game is real and it's coming out at the end of the month. The OST is complete. All the art (apart from pieces of UI still in progress) is done. We've felt the full spectrum of human emotion during the development of this title and we are both excited and terrified for the general public to finally get to play it.

There are over 200 tins of these in my pantry and it's actually overwhelming.

We are pleased to announce that 30% of the total backer rewards have now been shipped! As noted in our previous update, our initial batch of shipments was a sort of smoke test for the overall fulfillment process. We're pleased to hear that many people have already received their rewards. We thank everybody for their continued patience as we prepare a total of over 200 orders of backer rewards!

We have an important notice regarding wood charms! Wood charms come with protective film on them. You will have to peel that film off for them to look good. For an illustration of this and why that matters, see the difference below:

We've been packing orders every day, except yesterday as I was at the dentist for a much-needed appointment and now am enjoying better teeth. Weirdly personal and casual tangent aside, we are so excited for you to finally get your goodies. What a fun process this has been!

Assembling backer rewards!

Hey everybody, we are pleased to announce the following: We have begun the fulfillment process for physical rewards! There are over 200 orders to go through, which is quite impressive when you really sit down and think about it.

To start things off, we have already shipped 21 orders. Consider this our smoke test, as we want to ensure everything is going smoothly. These 21 orders are all domestic and contain exactly one sticker set and one enamel pin. If you fit the bill for that type of order, do let us know when your goods arrive! We want to see your swag, so be sure to tweet pictures to us @3HalvesGames!

As a fun bit of trivia, we have approximately 200 tins of tea to ship out. We're glad the reward was so popular! The most coveted tea was the white tea blend (white peony with blueberries), though this was only by a small margin. We'll include instructions on optimal brewing temperatures for each blend.
